Kerala is undoubtedly famous for its houseboat and its cruising in backwater canals covered with open rice fields and coconut plantations.Alleppey is considered as a hub when it comes to houseboats.
Those who want to stay in hotels and wish to enjoy only riding in houseboats; relax that option is also available.
We stayed in a houseboat for one night in the month of October.

As per your need and comfort ,Alleppey offers you multiple options in houseboats.In General we can categorize them into standard,premium and luxury packages.Further in those types you can find one bedroom,two bedroom or even multiple bedroom swanky large houseboats.
We booked a premium houseboat with two bedrooms having an upper sitting area and deck.
The silent cruising of a houseboat into the narrow water channels,piercing though coconut trees will take you to a different level.This particular landscape of the water canal backdrop with coconut trees protruding into water canals is unique in every sense.
Food :
Every houseboat package offers you complete food right from welcome drink to next day’s breakfast.You will get veg and non veg options.One can buy any particular fish item from the local market and ask them to prepare a dish for you.
Details of Houseboat and Cruising:
If you have opted to stay in a houseboat ,generally cruising starts at 11 AM in the morning.There will be two people serving for you ;one will be the driver and other will prepare food for you.
Bed rooms are spacious enough to give you comfort and relaxed feelings.Sitting at upper deck area and observing things around was our favorite time in our entire houseboat stay.

Final thoughts:
1)People say there is a mosquito problem and don’t stay in houseboats,but this isn’t the case.We didn’t face any mosquito problem.
2) Many argue staying in a houseboat is a costly affair,rather we would say any decent hotel in Alleppey costs you around 5000 Rs per day;in comparison this will be a cheaper option considering all the food.
