Matheran is one of the smallest and beautiful hill station located in Sahyadri mountain range.One can not imagine such a lush green hill station surrounded by jungle of medicinal plants is present within stones throw away from Mumbai.Believe us it was one of the best hill stations we have visited recently.

Matheran is one of the few hill stations in India where a toy train facility is available.

How to reach:

One can take a local train from Mumbai to Neral.From Neral you can take a toy train uphill to Matheran.There are a lot of cabs available which takes you uphill till dasturi parking lot.

Important note: 

The road from base to parking lot is a little difficult to drive.There are a lot of difficult turns and vertical ascend.You need sufficient driving skill to drive comfortably.You will get only drivers who will drive your car uphill.

Where to live:

You will get lot of hotels to live in Matheran.We lived in MTDC matheran resort which is situated beside Dasturi parking lot .Matheran hill being eco-sensitive zone vehicle are only allowed till this point.MTDC located adjoining to this parking lot,carrying luggage becomes very easy otherwise many hotels are located in inside Matheran and you need to hire horse or take train to Matheran market.Recently E-rickshaw has been started from dasturi point to Matheran Market.

What to see in matheran:

Matheran has a lot of typical tourist points which most of the hill stations has.We recommend you to visit some of the points we visited and it is better to walk or one can hire a horse.We covered Matheran on foot which we feel best way to absorb the vibes of Matheran.

We took a train from Aman lodge to Matheran station as Aman lodge station is  very near to the MTDC resort. 

Charlotte Lake and sunset point is not to miss. Also, a visit to Louisa Point should be on your list.

Sunrise at panoramic point is the best sunrise we have witnessed till date.You must prefer to stay at MTDC resort so that you can walk till panoramic point at dawn to catch this beautiful sunrise.Panoramic point was our favorite point in Matheran from where you will get to see Kadyavarcha Ganpati and toy train route.

Important tip: 

You should be aware of monkeys in Matheran.There are monkeys everywhere searching for food.
