Matheran hill being eco-sensitive zone ,vehicle are only allowed till place called Dasturi point where huge parking space for two and four wheelers is available.You will require to pay 50 Rs per day for four wheeler .Parking here is generally considered as safe,we felt the same.
You will get lot of hotels to live in Matheran. We lived in MTDC Matheran resort which is situated beside Dasturi parking lot .Being located adjoining to this parking lot, carrying luggage becomes very easy otherwise many hotels are located inside Matheran and you need to hire horse or take train or hand Rickshaw till Matheran market. Recently E-rickshaw has been started from dasturi point to Matheran Market.
MTDC Matheran is typical government resort but beautifully maintained and gives very good vibes. Situated in lush greeneries spread across two parts where one part holds reception and few villas and in other part restaurant and remaining rooms have been located. We lived in vally view deluxe AC room which located adjoining the Matheran toy train track.
This room has large courtyard or verandah where you can chill at night or after lunch. Equipped with all basic amenities this massive ceiling height in room gives feeling of grandeur .Wooden themed furniture make you feel rich.
There are dedicated areas for children to play ;one can sit, roam inside premise to enjoy the stay here .Resort has good restaurant which serves all types of food. Proper pathways are created for senior citizens or physically challenged individuals.
There are many activities planned by MTDC staff ,bonfire night ,karaoke nights and morning guided trek to Panoramic vie point.
